He looks back on the house parties that used to be so prevalent and says they were ‘uplifting’ – a community thing where people could meet, have a dance and enjoy themselves.

It was a Thursday afternoon when Y5SG from Byron Wood School had an assembly based on ancient Egypt. First they had a school play; the teacher was a young student named Muna Yusuf. She had 6 students learning the hieroglyphics. One was always having a vision from the future.

Saturday 23rd August was the annual Burngreave New Deal for Communities Seaside Trip to Cleethorpes. There were five coaches with 218 Burngreave residents (115 adults and 103 children) made up of grandparents, parents, children, aunties, uncles and cousins, together with all the kit and caboodle that goes with a day trip to the seaside – prams, bags, car seats and cooler bags.

Bonfire night was celebrated magnificently here in Burngreave on the 3rd November at Petre Street as a small fair ended with spectacular fireworks taking place on the field. There was a great turnout considering the cold weather, with approximately 150-200 people.
