On 31st July over seventy people came to the SADACCA Womens’ Group “Afternoon tea with a difference.”

There was plenty of food and amazing cakes, live music, children’s activities, crafts, raffle and stalls. It was a lively and friendly afternoon.

Carmen Franklin and Myrtle Walker said that the Women’s Group has been going for over thirty years and has as many members. The event raised money for funding SADACCA. But the Women’s Group has been involved with various activities over the years with a focus on helping local communities and others, much further afield.

But as Carmen Franklin said,

“Funds have not been easy to obtain and we have to do things to help ourselves. We try to live well and help others to do so.”

The Women’s Group have worked on a number of health issues, assisting University of Sheffield and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital with medical research, running health days and organising health walks.

In addition the group has a singing section and does creative writing activities, including poetry, plays and stories. As a result Myrtle Walker has had a book of her poems and stories published.

They are looking forward to being involved in the Black History month this year, probably looking at women and women’s achievements as well as trafficking issues.

Meanwhile, back to those cakes…
