An exciting six week family learning course called “Talking Together” started on Wednesday 17th September at Firs Hill Primary School.

The course is aimed at families with children in nursery and reception classes and will really help them to support their children in their speaking and listening. Pretend play and lots of talking and asking questions about what you are doing is really important in those early years and can often be created with items around your home for free!

There were ten ladies who were all mums or grandparents in the group, from five different nationalities. Everyone got on really well, doing small group activities together.

The tutor, Vicky Proctor, asked the women if they knew what a ‘den’ was? Only one out of the ten knew it was a home-made shelter which children build to play in. They then had the task of making a den and thinking of what they could do at home with their children. A few ideas they came up with were reading, having a picnic, singing, making a look-out and spending individual time with each child
