Story: Rick Watson

As winter approaches, it's time to think about how to keep warm and cosy without huge energy bills. Whether you are a tenant, landlord, or home-owner, energy efficiency doesn't have to cost a fortune. Sometimes the simplest and cheapest things are the most effective, like draught-proofing your doors and windows, and sealing round your skirting boards.

Open Homes in Burngreave

On Sunday October 19th, three houses in Burngreave are opening their doors to the public to give people the chance to see many ways to improve homes, and to talk to home-owners and tenants about their experiences of deciding what changes to make. This is an opportunity to visit a range of typical hard-to-heat Burngreave houses, and ask your own questions about the energy efficiency improvements that have been made.

The event is organised by Green Homes Sheffield, a free network set up to help you make your home warmer and more energy efficient. Call Rick on 07904 300 606 or see

for information about how to book for this event or others around the city.
