Story: Marion Graham

On 3rd July Firshill Tenants and Residents Association held their Summer Fair at Sheffield United Academy.

There were lots of stalls, including local guides, Firshill craft group, and Firshill History Group. There was a cake stall and bric a brac. The police had their information bus and spoke to local residents about their issues.

The winners of the Firshill garden competition were awarded with prizes for the best garden, best balcony and best hanging basket.

The winners in each category were:

  • Best-kept Garden – Joan Rowlands, Firshill Glade.

  • Best Balcony – Betty Bower, Firshill Crescent.

  • Best Hanging Basket – Bob Duckworth, Firshill Glade.

Residents were delighted with the prize draw, with winners taking home a microwave, a toaster, DVD player, a set of pans, bottles of sherry and whiskey and cuddly toys.

Everyone had a good time eating strawberries and cream provided by Firshill TARA. The TARA expressed their appreciation to Sheffield United Academy who made the venue available for free, and to Sheffield Homes who donated first prizes for the gardening competition.

As part of the Summer Fair, the TARA held a poster competition, on the theme of keeping fit and eating healthy. This year’s winners were Siemon Umoh in Y1, and Bree Ella Quinton in Y6.
