Ramadan’s Big Fast Break!

Please note – THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Story: Diane Haimeed

The Yemeni Community Association sub-group and Burngreave Young People’s Network are organising a special and harmonious fast opening and meal in the holy month of Ramadan.

This event is taking place on the 25th August at Vestry Hall from 7pm. Everyone from different communities and backgrounds are welcome to come along and bring a sweet or savoury dish to contribute to this special occasion. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Every day during this month, Muslims around the world spend the daylight hours in a complete fast.

Muslims use this month to re-evaluate their lives in light of Islamic guidance. They are to make peace with those who have wronged them, strengthen ties with family and friends and refrain from bad habits. The Arabic word for fasting, ‘sawm’, literally means ‘to refrain’.
