Once again community volunteers got together to create a nature picture to adorn the site of one of the old wells in Burngreave Cemetery.

Well dressing, as thanks for the gift of water, follows an age old tradition particularly popular in Peak district villages. In Sheffield – Dore and Totley, Walkley and Manor Oaks districts in addition to Burngreave also create annual offerings.

The well dressing was launched by the Lord Mayor Talib Hussain on Sunday 5th July and will remain in place until 19th July.

This years’s theme in Burngreave cemetery depicts the bees which pollinate our local flowers and trees. It also shows bats and mushrooms for both of which we will be holding foraging walks later in the year.

Thanks to all those who helped in its creation

A Bat walk wiil be led by Bob Croxton from the Sorby Natural History Society on Friday September 18th 8.00pm
