Burngreave Community Radio goes off air

Burngreave Community Radio (BCR) has stopped broadcasting on 103.1FM, following a request from OFCOM to cease transmission over the airwaves.

OFCOM, which is the radio regulator, stated that the 5-year license to broadcast was held by the registered company, Burngreave Community Radio Ltd, a company limited by guarantee. The company ceased to exist when it was dissolved in January 2011 and this means the license automatically ended.

OFCOM asked the station to stop broadcasting in September when it became aware the company had been dissolved. To gain a new license the station would have to reapply to OFCOM.

The station is continuing with its programme of shows which are live on the internet, a link can be found on the BCR website http://bcr1031fm.com
