Story: Raveena Hussain (Fir Vale School Student Voice)

We are a group of students at Fir Vale School – Raveena Hussain, Amoon Fazeldin, Raquia Begum, all year 10 students and Zena M’shana, from year 11.

Our aim is to help build a closer relationship with the wider community and the Fir Vale family of schools (Firs Hill, Byron Wood, St. Catherine’s, Whiteways and Owler Brook) with Rashida Hassanali, Extended Services Lead Professional. We also are given the opportunity to improve and progress in skills such as communication, accepting a challenge, taking a risk and teamwork.

Our first event, to celebrate primary pupils’ success, was the “Easter Eggstravaganza” at Fir Vale Enterprise Centre on the 26th March, when 32 pupils and 8 staff attended. The first activity was a competition to design the best Easter egg, then a game of pass-the-parcel. As part of an Easter tradition, an Easter Bunny Hunt for bunny chocolates hidden in the school grounds was arranged. Following a small tea party, with sandwiches and fruit, the afternoon ended with laughter and jokes and a magic show performed by Mr Summerhayes, Assistant Head at Whiteways Junior School. This event was supported by funding from Fir Vale School and Fir Vale Community Chest (administered by BCAF).
