Job: Community Development Worker

  • Hours: 30 hrs (flexible) 52 weeks

  • Location: PMC and Wolseley Road Mosque, Sheffield

  • Salary: £25,000 – £28.125 pro rata

  • Contract period: 12 months

CRB: Successful applicants will be required to provide a basic CRB Disclosure.

The Madina Mosque, Wolseley Road, is a relatively new landmark building in the city of Sheffield that includes additional community space for the development of activities to respond to the social and educational needs of the community. The Broomhill, Central and Nether Edge Area Panel and the Pakistan Muslim Centre are working in partnership to support the development of the new community facility at Wolseley Road.

The post is initially funded for one year and the aim is to initiate the first stage in the development of the new community centre. This will include working closely with both the steering group and Madina Mosque committee to work towards providing a range of non-religious services and activities that is open to the wider community. This role will be challenging, as the project is about creating something new and different for the community – but it will be very worthwhile and rewarding.

We are looking for a dynamic person with a solid track record of working in the community, with strong project development and partnership working experience which is underpinned by excellent communication and social skills as well as a knowledge and awareness of relevant cultural and religious traditions.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and will need to work from both the Pakistan Muslim Centre and the Madina Mosque and should be available for occasional evening and weekend work.

Please direct all enquiries to Jaffer Idris (Pakistan Muslim Centre) on 0114 243 6091 or Stella Mekonnen (Sheffield City Council) on 0114 273 6421.

Closing date for Applications: 29th September 2008

Interview Date: 7th October 2008

Please contact 0114 243 6091 for an application form.

NB: The PMC is an equal opportunities employer and provider of services.
