Two Weeks to Make It

Story: Martin Currie

Local resident, Martin Currie, his ten year old son Frankie, artist Steve Pool, and filmmakers Peter Applerock and Peter Chuba won the 2011 music video competition “2 Weeks 2 Make it”.

The video they made for the Bradford based band “Wilful Missing” shows a flooded Sheffield, the water steadily rising to cover lead singer Sam Kipling, as actor David Castleford swims through the drowning city.

Martin told us, “At the start of the competition the names of pairs of bands and film makers got drawn from a hat and we had two weeks to make a music video together.

I came up with an idea involving Dave Castleford and we launched into production. With the lead singer and the two Peters, Steve did some great shooting, and it all started to come together. We delivered our video with a good ten minutes to spare, and we won, to my complete astonishment.

The prize was some cash, equipment hire and facilities to make another video. I asked all members of the team to come up with an idea and we would chose one to make, but things snowballed and now we’re making all of them.

Zero Budget Movie Festival

We plan to host an outdoor film festival called “Cheap Thrills”, in Burngreave on September 10th, where all our ‘zerobudget’ films will be shown, and lots more beside. My seven year old son Robin and his friend Erin have made the first film, so no one has any excuse.

You make a short film and we’ll show it! It must be under six minutes long, be entertaining and be suitable for a family audience. Entry is free and the event is free. Win a Really Cheap Prize. See you in September!
