Aswaaq-Zain opened on Ellesmere Road six months ago. Its restrained elegant window display marks it out from others on the Spital Hill shopping centre.

Proprietor Zain Abdulla already well known in our area aims, “to provide up-to-date ‘big city’ fashion for the Sheffield muslim community; clothes the professional person can wear for work or leisure, without compromising on either modesty or tradition.”

His intention is that the boutique should be a leader in transforming the image of Spital Hill, making it a place to attract discerning shoppers from throughout the city.

Aswaaq-Zain is currently the only shop – city-wide – offering contemporary styled Islamic women’s swim-wear that is approved by the city leisure centres.

The shop stocks clothing from several international fashion design labels in sizes up to XXL, for both male and female, from newborn to adult. You can buy matching clothing for the whole family or have your own slogans or designs printed onto jackets and T-shirts.

Top quality boxed items jostle with those at more affordable prices. Scarfs, hats, children’s books (including the Arabic version of Mr Men) and Halal sweets, perfume, incense burners, miswaks in the guise of fountain pens and other household items are all on view. Something for everyone!

Even better, there is a sale on at the shop until the beginning of Ramadan in August, when there will be more new stock added to the range.

Opening hours:

  • Monday – Friday 10.00am – 6.00pm,

  • Saturday and Sunday 12noon – 5.00pm.

  • Closed for about 15 minutes during prayer times each day.

Thoughts for the future include stocking individual sections for men’s thaubs traditional to their countries of origin and possibly jewellery. The sky’s the limit! Look out for the launch of our online shop with discounts for the first 100 shoppers
