Tusaale United in Portugal

Story: Guleid Jama

During the summer Tusaale United took part in the IberCup, currently one of the most important World Youth Football Tournaments on the planet.

8000 players, coaches and family from 50 countries come to Estoril in Portugal for a week of competition; this offered fantastic experiences and extraordinary opportunities to compete with some of the top teams in the world. Our group had teams from Ivory Coast, Portugal and Spain. We won 2 of the 3 games and lost the other, so we qualified as group winners, showing exactly what we can do as a team! Unfortunately we lost the quarter-finals; all our players can hold their heads up high for an amazing performance against the Spanish giants, Seville. One Tusaale United player said,

“This trip has been the best experience I could ever have wished for. To get such an insight into a well renowned professional academy was unbelievable. I will remember this forever.”

Six of Tusaale United players also got the opportunity to train with the top Academy teams over the summer – from clubs like Sheffield United, Barnsley and Chesterfield. Some of the boys have been invited back to train with the Academy in the near future – a true testament to the work involved in playing for Tusaale United.

On behalf of Tusaale United Football Club, I would like to personally offer my deepest appreciation to the businesses below. Their financial investment makes what we do for the young boys in our area possible: Young’s Solicitors, Spital Chippy, Swift Pharmacy, Can Can Café, Muhiadin Farah Building Company and Cinema Garage. We were also supported by Ellesmere Youth Project. If your company would like to promote your business on Tusaale United kit or even the mini bus and also help the youth in our area, please don’t hesitate to get in contact – my number is 07936 340779 and my e-mail is g_jama@yahoo.com.
