Parkwood Academy's new building is open. Costing £20 million, the state of the art facility replaces the 1930s building, originally home to Herries School. Parkwood students explain the difference it has made.

On the 19th April 2012, Parkwood Academy moved into a lovely, fabulous and spacious new building. Everybody was so excited (even the people who weren’t that keen on school!)
The old building was all dark and gloomy and didn’t look that nice from the outside or the inside. It was crowded in the corridors and there was chewing gum all over, especially under the tables and chairs.
That was not the best environment for us but now, in the new building, there is no bubble gum under tables and the chairs are all nice and clean! Plus the atmosphere is much happier and the natural light gives us all a joyful feeling.
On the first day, everybody was ecstatic about moving into a better environment. Ellie Hardy, a pupil at the Academy, said,
“The old building was a very small place and sometimes I couldn’t really concentrate because of the noise from other classrooms. In the new building we have a lot more space to work.”
On the first day, everybody queued outside the academy desperate to get in and explore. The drama room is also great. It’s two times bigger than the other one and has long, black curtains to block the sunlight out when we are performing. We love our new academy building!
