Roads repaired but trees lost

Story:Amy Palmer

Work will be taking place on some Burngreave roads in spring 2016, but some trees have already been felled.

Burngreave ward has been split into three areas for the work, which includes road and pavement resurfacing, as well as the maintenance of street lighting and trees. Burngreave streets to the west of Burngreave Road are part of the ‘Neepsend’ zone where the works will be happening. While the resurfacing of streets (including Nottingham Street, Fox Street, Rock Street, Spital Lane and Verdon Street) will be welcomed by most, the felling of trees is less welcome. Eight trees in this area have been cut down, including six mature cherry trees on Fox Street and two trees near Andover Street.
