Ski Village Planning Application

Story: Priya Blackham

Pullan Development (Selby) LTD have put in an application on behalf of the owners of the Ski Village.

The property owners wish to return the land to a beneficial use; either by reinstating the alpine skiing activities or for other usage. In preparation for redeveloping the site in the future, this current application would be to, level off the area where the former play area café was and also where the lower portion of the main ski-slope itself was. The owners also intend to remove structures associated with the outdoor ski slopes, including jumps, ramps, a “bridge” on the length of the drag lift etc., and possibly the ski slope matting itself.

The Sheffield Ski Village had a major fire on the 29th April 2012, which was followed by a number of further arson attacks. The use of the ski slopes finally closed in August 2012. In addition to arson attacks on the buildings, the Ski Village also faced theft, especially metal, for example, Lift motors.

The developer has said:

“The proposed levelling activity is a preliminary activity in advance of an application to develop this area, whether as a re-established alpine skiing centre, or other use to achieve a beneficial and sustainable use for the site.”

The council is now considering the planning application. Full details may be found on the council website, reference number 13/03814/FUL
