Tesco plan for a big store in Burngreave

Tesco are holding consultation events in February to ask residents what they think of a new store they hope to build on Spital Hill.

The proposed site is between Saville Street and Spital Hill, where the Hartwells Car dealership now stands.

Tesco are yet to put in a full planning application but its possible the store will be on two levels, with pedestrian access from Spital Hill.

If the planning process goes smoothly the store could be built by the end of 2008.

Burngreave New Deal for Communities are working with Tesco to host consultation events, and have been invited to work on a the proposal for the store with the Tesco and the City Council. New Deal told the Messenger they welcomed possibilty of hundreds of new jobs in the area.

Consultation will take place on Friday 9th February 12noon-7pm at Shiloh Church, and Saturday 10th February 11am-3pm at Verdon Recreation Centre. It will also be discussed at the next Area Panel meeting on Thursday 22nd February 5-7pm at Burngreave Library, where Tesco will be doing a presentation.
