Free female lifeguard training

The YCA Firvale Centre is arranging a free course for women who want to train as a lifeguard.

The 16-week course will start at Concord Sports Centre on Tuesdays from 21st July 2015. The course will run from 12.00 in the classroom and then 1.30pm in the pool.

The course is free but you need to attend every week and then do the exam to get your qualification.

The entry criteria for the course are that you must be able to:

  • Jump / dive into deep water

  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds

  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water

  • Tread water for 30 seconds

  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool

  • Climb out unaided without ladder / steps and where the pool design permits
