Nearly 300 people from Firshill, Pitsmoor, Burngreave and Darnall attended an exhibition held at the Vestry Hall showcasing planned improvements to local housing operated by Sheffield Homes. The event provided an opportunity to meet and speak with the contractors who will be carrying out improvement works on council houses imminently, at an exhibition entitled, ‘Decent Homes’.

Entertainment was provided by dancer Anwesha Sinha from South Asian arts organisation Manasamitra, who is trained in Manipuri dance traditionally performed in north-eastern India.

The improvements will be carried out by Wates Living Space, whose mascot, Ivor Goodsite, kept children amused at the exhibition whilst their parents were busy talking to staff.

Plans are in place to improve 2500 homes in the next few years, forming part of the Decent Homes programme which has secured £669 million of government funding for improvements to 40,000 council houses in the city.

Simon Senior, Sheffield Homes Decent Homes Project Manager, said, “The event was a real success with nearly 300 customers attending. It provided a great opportunity for customers to come along chat to us and partner Wates about any questions they have about Decent Homes programme and see how their home can be transformed through the home improvement work.”
