The Feeling Good project, run by Burngreave TARA, runs different activities for women, and today we were at the monthly Cook & Eat session at the Furnival. Women come to cook, taste and experience dishes from all around the world, such as Yemeni, Lebanese and Pakistani, whilst making and talking to friends. The dish of the day was chicken curry with rice and yogurt, “raita”, and we had the honour of accompanying them and trying this delicious dish!

I asked people why they come to the sessions. Patricia Love, who’s been coming for a long time, said

“To talk with people and enjoy cooking.”

Shazia, who is a full-time carer for her son, said “I come to meet other people and exchange ideas, because I don’t have many opportunities to get out. This is my first time here, I found out about it at the International Women’s Day event.”

The women come from Kenya, Yemen, England, Pakistan, Algeria and Liberia. The ingredients were donated from Tesco.

Aislinn, the coordinator of Feeling Good, said “We started in 2014. We had funding for ten months, then for a further 24 months by the People’s Health Trust”
