Work started on Spital Hill and Ellesmere Green

Upgrade of Spital Hill footway & improvements to Ellesmere Green– Traffic Management Arrangements

The Council’s appointed contractor, Amey, has started work to improve the footways on Spital Hill and Ellesmere Green.

A one-way traffic system has been agreed, with traffic going up Spital Hill (similar to what was done when Tesco was being built, as well as the Relief Road).

Dates of traffic management:

  • The one way traffic system will start on Sunday 6 October and is expected to last until 27 November 2013.

  • All the roads will go back to normal from 27 November until 6 January 2014.

  • After then, Spital Hill will go back to the one way traffic management until early February 2014 at the latest. (The contractor will bring the traffic back to normal before then if possible).

There is a diversion route for those travelling down Spital Hill. This is via Gower Street and Sutherland Street back to Savile Street. Hallcar Street and Earsham Street remain unaffected.

Work will take place during the day.

Please note that Ellesmere Green will be fenced off from mid-October until the work is complete (February 2014).

Order of works:

  • Work will start on the paving on Spital Hill, on the same side of the street as the Library.

  • The paving is expected to be completed by the end of October/early November.

  • Work will then cover the Sorby House part of Spital Hill – taking place until 27 November and picking up again on 6 January.

  • Works will then move to Ellesmere Green.

  • Works is expected to be complete by early February 2014.
