          Volunteer work is what keeps a lot of the community organisations going and is very rewarding and empowering for the individuals. This page celebrates some of the people who contribute to our area. Many residents learning English in Burngreave, are hoping to improve their language so they can get a job. ESOL learners with Kath Swinney’s Life Long Learning and Skills class at the Vestry Hall, are also gaining valuable experience as volunteers

            Volunteers in Burngreave come from all around the world, as I discovered when I talked recently to some of the 40 people who work voluntarily at Rainbow’s End charity shop at Sorby House

            Laurie Marris has worked at the Pitsmoor CAB for about a year. After finishing her law degree, she wanted some experience before starting solicitor training

            Arwa Alansi came to the UK 3 years ago and is from Yemen. She is qualified in haematology and worked in a hospital laboratory for 13 years. She is married and has a little boy.

            Azeb comes from Eritrea and she has lived in Sheffield about three years. She has two children.
