Arwa Alansi came to the UK 3 years ago and is from Yemen. She is qualified in haematology and worked in a hospital laboratory for 13 years. She is married and has a little boy.
What do you do at the moment?
Actually I work as volunteer in NHS in the infections control prevention department, I’ve been a volunteer for a year.
That is very interesting subject could you tell me how you find out?
One day my friends invited me to Sheffield Voluntary Action. I went there and told the coordinator about my experience, she was interested and offered me voluntary job in the NHS. I was so excited because it concerns my subject.
What inspire you to do this?
Many things, firstly to improve my English, to be helpful and useful, and maybe to get a job in the future. I love helping people. It’s great job and gives me more practice, precisely in this subject where I have got qualifications and certificates.
What is your plan for the future?
I will continue this voluntary job and I hope to find a good job in the laboratory service. My advice for other people is to do voluntary work as it is very good for communication and for confidence. And it’s the best way to make friends and enjoy life.
