BME Inclusion Project Worker

The Children and Young People’s Empowerment Project (CHILYPEP) is a registered charity that has worked with Children and Young People across Sheffield for over 5 years. The purpose of our work is to support children and young people to be actively involved in decision- making processes, which affect their lives.

We have recently received funding to set up a new project, the Every Child Matters Inclusion Project, and wish to recruit to the following post:

BME Inclusion Project Worker Ref CHILYPEP/IPW

  • 18.5 Hours per week

  • Salary Scale NJC Scale 6 Point 26 P/A (£20,895) Pro Rata

As a member of the ECM Inclusion Project team you will be responsible for taking a lead in developing the BME inclusion part of the project. You will work with Children and Young People from the Black Minority Ethnic Community and help them to develop a peer research project to identify the needs and issues for BME children and young people across the city. You will also be required to work with other groups of children and young people involved in the Every Child Matters Inclusion Project.

You will need:

  • An understanding of the needs and issues that affect children and young people from the BME community

  • Experience of working with BME children and young people and organisations around participation and empowerment issues.

  • Experience of delivering training/informal education

  • A qualification in Youth work, Community Development work, Social work, Training or Education, or other relevant qualification

Or

  • 2 years direct Youth / Community Development work or training experience, with a particular emphasis on supporting BME children and young people in active participation

And

  • A demonstrable commitment to Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discriminatory Practice

Funding for this post is available for 1 year. Continued employment will be subject to further funding being secured.

Post-holders will be required to undergo and pass a Criminal Records Bureau Check

Closing date: Friday 25th January at 5.00pm.
