Children’s Festival of Sport

Story by David Ainscough

The Lord Mayor opened the Children’s Festival of Sport on Saturday, 21st August. Presented by the Burngreave New Deal, BCAT, and Firshill Tenants and residents association the day brought together members of the community young and old, and everyone was catered for.

The event was in support of the world firefighter games, the fire brigade contributing with many activities including the crowd impressing chip pan fire display.

Amongst the many sporting activities was former world boxing champion Paul ‘Silky’ Jones and the ‘Skippercise’, with one of the many interactive games for the children. Including craft and jumble stalls and a display by the Firshill History Society, this really was a great day out for everyone.

The New Deal information vehicle once again provided the music and was the stage for the prize presentations.
