It’s a Sure Start

Story by the New Deal executive team.

Work on the Sure Start centre is getting underway and it is due to open its doors to the local community in 2005/2006.

The new building, funded by £451,000 from BNDfC and £514,000 from Sure Start, will be built on Spital Street.

The centre will house a range of services for families with children up to five years old.

These include:

  • A team of Sure Start family support workers and their manager who will provide practical and emotional support to families via referral from professionals as well as self-referrals from service users.

  • The family support area co-coordinator who will enhance partnership working.

  • The Burngreave Domestic Abuse Project.

  • Health visitors and link workers will be based in the building alongside a Sure Start health visitor and midwife.

  • A training room with registered crèche.

  • Parenting classes with child care.

  • Family learning.
