Story by the New Deal executive team.
Work on the Sure Start centre is getting underway and it is due to open its doors to the local community in 2005/2006.
The new building, funded by £451,000 from BNDfC and £514,000 from Sure Start, will be built on Spital Street.
The centre will house a range of services for families with children up to five years old.

The family support area co-coordinator who will enhance partnership working.
The Burngreave Domestic Abuse Project.
Health visitors and link workers will be based in the building alongside a Sure Start health visitor and midwife.
A training room with registered crèche.
Parenting classes with child care.
Family learning.
