Multifaith Forest Garden working day 13th september

The Multifaith Group invite everyone to join them for a Forest Gardening day at Parkwood Springs on:

Saturday 13th September 11am – 2pm.

Following the growth spurt of ‘plants we don’t want’ over the summer the hard work digging on the garden is really paying off, it’s looking great.

The raspberries were plumping up last month and these along with the mulberries should be ready for picking. Some of the trees and hedges have been growing very fast and this month we will continue pruning and also the usual digging and maintenance tasks.

Please feel free to bring a container to harvest the fruit or to supplement your lunch.

A big thank you to one local resident who almost single handed has cleared the far edge of the garden of rosebay willowherb. An amazing achievement and much appreciated.

In April we established a selection of groundcover plants including: day lilies, lavender, sun berries, perennial walking onions and more. This is the first step in creating a more diverse ground layer.

In addition to the planting it has been a fantastic time for the forest garden. Just about all of the old planting membrane has been removed and replaced by wood chip. The main body of the garden has now been cleared and this has continued into the remaining areas towards the bottom of the site and around the old pond.

The First Interfaith Tree is doing very well having settled into its new home and with the original plaque now installed really sets off the garden when seen from the path.

There will be an opportunity to continue discussing the future plan for the garden and also a chance for a guided walk around the garden for those who haven’t visited before.

We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones as we move into another autumn in the garden.

Please see the attached flyer and map for more details.

Tim Shortland will be at the entrance to the car park from 10.45am. Please feel free to contact him for more information on 07785 362289 tim.shortland@sheffield.gov.uk
