Multifaith Forest Garden workday April 12th

Sheffield Interfaith invites you to the Joint Environmental initiative Multi-faith Forest Gardening day at Parkwood Springs on:

Saturday 12th April 11am – 2pm

Tim Shortland, Community Forestry manager says

As the green buds of spring start to open and we approach the new season I think it’s a good time reflect on the amazing achievements over the last year.

It has been a fantastic time for the forest garden. Just about all of the old planting membrane has been removed and replaced by wood chip. The main body of the garden has been weeded and the clearance has continued towards the remaining areas towards the bottom of the site and around the pond. The existing plants and trees have been nurtured and are thriving.

This month’s workday will be a planting day to establish a selection of ground cover plants including: day lilies, lavender, sun berries and perennial walking onions.

This is the first step in creating a more diverse ground layer. As always I’m afraid there will be the usual weeding jobs. There will be opportunity to continue discussing the future plan for the garden in light of the new planting and also a chance for a guided walk around the garden for those who haven’t visited before.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has worked on, and visited the forest garden over the past months. We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones as we move into another spring in the garden.
