          Less than a mile north of Sheffield city centre lies a vast area of open land, almost as big as the city centre itself. Yet few people know of Parkwood Springs, its secret places and its enormous potential as a country park in the city. October 2009 issue.

            Parkwood Springs was inhabited until the mid 1970s, when it was demolished, and its inhabitants have dispersed across Sheffield and even as far as Australia. An impression of the history of Parkwood Springs.

            The good folk who braved the showers on June 6th 2009 to join the Parkwood Springwatch weren’t disappointed by a bit of bad weather. The stars of the show were the birds of prey, whose impeccable behaviour gave everyone a close encounter with giants of the bird world. Members of the public enjoy nature in Parkwood Srings.

            Green woodworking skills – bodging – were learnt by 220 children in the great outdoors of Parkwood in a hive of craft activity between the 8th and 11th of June 2009.
