After the storm comes the calm, new beginnings and new hope of better things to come.

In June 2007, when Sheffield was besieged with a monstrous flow of gallons and gallons of water after the River Don overflowed its banks, the SADACCA Day Care Centre was one of the services affected the most.

A year on, the centre was refurbished and the opening held on the 23rd June. The Lord Mayor, Mrs Jane Bird, was the guest of honour. In her address to the management, workers and service users, she stated how impressed she was with the centre and its relaunch after the flood. It was a positive move and she thought highly of the centre.

She commented on the sense of community and how it was good to see the senior citizens being active and commended SADACCA for their hard work. She was happy to see that the facilities incorporated both inside and outside activities and endeavoured to keep the service users independent.

After the formalities, the Lord Mayor took the opportunity to go from table to table to interact with everyone, leaving laughter as she went along. After sampling some of the food she confessed, “I’ve eaten too much. I really enjoyed the saltfish fritters – they were excellent, but I had salad to balance it.” Bursts of laughter echoed throughout the room.

The users of the centre commented how good it was to be back.
