The Earl Marshall U7s (now the U8s) entered two Football tournaments this summer – at Brinsworth and Throstles. They emerged as victors at Throstles, where they beat the Handsworth team in rain and mud, and won the trophy. Tyler Bent scored the winning goal.
This road to victory was not an easy one after the disappointment of losing at Brinsworth on penalties – but this only made them stronger on the field at Throstles, the first time that Earl Marshall had won a tournament.
Speaking to the young team at training, I found that they were very enthusiastic and excited about the next tournament. Liam Desouza said, “the tournament was hard but winning was great”.
Other than playing in tournaments in the future, players in the team aspired to be like Premiership footballers Ronaldo, Rooney and local legend Billy Sharp.
I spoke to Manager Damian Desouza and Assistant Manager Tony Herrington, who said “We are proud of the amount of time and commitment the boys have put into training. Over a very short period they have become a really tight-knit team.”
Earl Marshall are looking for new boys or girls in Y2 for the Sheffield and District Juniors Sunday League. They also need volunteer ManagersContact Mick Ashman on 07843 731 430 or Garfield Walters on 07760 240 366 for more information.
