Women's Construction Centre starts new courses

On Saturday 15th March 2008, enrollment will take place at the Women's Construction Centre for a variety of courses, detailed below. Enrollment will take place from 10am – 12pm, and will take place at the centre itself, situated on Buckenham Street.

Some courses will inevitably prove very popular, so potential learners are being urged to try to attend on the day. If you are unable to attend the enrollment but would like to participate on a course, please contact 0114 273 7046 after enrollment has taken place in order to check availability.

Fees for 7-week courses will be £60 waged or £30 unwaged (please bring proof of benefits to enrollment).

Fees for 4-week courses will be £35 waged or £20 unwaged (please bring proof of benefits to enrollment).

Fees must be paid in full at the enrollment, by cash or by cheque (made payable to South Yorkshire Women's Development Trust).

Courses available

Plastering

7 week daytime course, 9:00 – 12:00. Monday 31st March – 19th May 2008. Tutor: Suzanne Hutt. Introduction to basic plastering techniques from repairs through to finishing off & skimming.

Plastering

7 week evening course, 18:00 – 21:00. Monday 31st March – 19th May 2008. Tutor: Suzanne Hutt. Introduction to basic plastering techniques from repairs through to finishing off & skimming.

Bricklaying

7 week daytime course, 9:00 – 12:30. Saturday 5th April – 17th May 2008. Tutor: Tracy Brindley. Basic & advanced bricklaying techniques including levelling, building 9”wall, garden steps & stepped foundations.

DIY & Construction Skills

7 week daytime course, 12:00 – 15:00. Tuesday 8th April – 19th May 2008. Tutor: Various Includes fixing to walls, power tools, tiling and much more.

Advanced Plastering

7 week evening course, 18:00 – 21:00. Tuesday 1st April – 13th May 2008. Tutor: Suzanne Hutt

Tiling

7 week daytime course, 12:00 – 15:00. Thursday 10th April – 22nd May 2008. Tutor: Kath Jones Introduction to wall & floor tiling to enable you to tile your bathroom & kitchen.

Tiling

7 week evening course, 18:00 – 21:00. Thursday 10th April – 22nd May 2008. Tutor: Kath Jones Introduction to wall & floor tiling to enable you to tile your bathroom & kitchen.

Wallpapering

4 week daytime course, 9:30 – 12:30. Saturday 19th April – 10th May 2008. Tutor: Sharon Burrows This course will cover lining papers, wallpapering, matching patterns & papering awkward areas.

Car Maintenance

4 week evening course, 18:00 – 21:00. Wednesday 4th June – 25th June 2008. Tutor: Ros Wollen Introduction to car maintenance including “What’s what & where in your car” & “what is involved in an MOT ?”, changing a wheel, changing oil & checking your brakes.

Stone Walling

5 week daytime course, 9:30 – 12:30. Saturday 14th June – 12th July 2008. Tutor: Tracy Brindley An introduction to stone walling (dry stone & mortar). Week 1 will be held at the Women’s Construction Centre. Weeks 2 to 5 will be at Green Estates, Manor Lodge and students will have the opportunity to work on a real heritage project. Course fee £45 (£25 unwaged).
