24th May Area Panel meeting

The next meeting of the Area Panel is on Thursday 24th May 2007 at 6pm in the Furnival meeting room (not at Verdon Street recreation centre). There will be a number of items to discuss, as well as the usual item for any questions and petitions from the public.

The meeting will include:

  • Ellesmere Green

  • Priorities for Burngreave Panel

  • Sheffield Homes

  • Parks in the area – update

  • Osgathorpe Pavilion

  • Activity Sheffield update

Service Managers present:

Sheffield Homes, Streetforce, Police

All welcome.

Amie Rowland, the Panel’s link officer with Parks, will be present to report on the work that’s being done throughout the area, but particularly singling out Abbeyfield Park, Burngreave Rec and Nottingham Cliffe. Amie will also be explaining the ideas for improving the gravel play area at Osgathorpe Park. This will also have its own agenda item, with members of the Friends of Osgathorpe Park and Burngreave Youth Council having their say on the future of Osgathorpe Park pavilion.

The meeting will get to see, comment and discuss the latest designs for Ellesmere Green. Brigitt Westran (Sheffield Homes) will be explaining how their Area Board works, and will be inviting people to consider standing for election to the Board. Di Hardiman (from Activity Sheffield) will be putting forward the plans for Pitsmoor Adventure Playground. Finally, Andy Shallice (the area co-ordinator) will be asking the Panel to approve the priorities for the Area Panel for the coming year.

There is now a standing item on each Area Panel meeting on items of progress that have been previously discussed – this will include reports of anti-social behaviour near Owler Brook School; the future of the B1/B2 buses; various road issues; the Scrutiny Board meeting about Northern General Hospital, parking and travel to/from the site; and the recent survey of residents on Firshill Road and Passhouses Road.

The Area Panel intends to hold two special meetings in June – one about the need for expanding local primary schools so that there are enough places in the area for all children in Burngreave and Fir Vale; and another about a proposed ‘child safety zone’ in Fir Vale (between Firth Park Road and Barnsley Road). More details soon.
