Police Appeal for Witnesses

South Yorkshire Police – Appeal for Information – Sheffield 1

Police investigating the murder of Sheffield taxi driver Younis Khan on 14 March 2007 are appealing for witnesses to establish the movements of a vehicle believed to have been used by the offenders.

Police have identified the vehicle as a maroon or burgundy Ford Escort, approximately 10 years old. Police are not releasing the registered number of the vehicle at this time for legal reasons.

It is thought the Ford Escort was in the Scott Road area, Pitsmoor, for some hours before the shooting which happened at 0145 hrs on Wednesday 14 March 2007.

The vehicle was later found abandoned with fire damage on the Langsett Estate in Upperthorpe in the early hours of the 14 March 2007, shortly after the murder.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the movements of the vehicle before or after the murder or prior to the car being abandoned.

The detective leading the investigation, Det Supt Martyn Bates, said:

“The investigation is continuing to make significant progress and we now have quite a clear picture of the events leading to Mr Khan's murder. I am increasingly optimistic that the investigation will reach a successful conclusion.”

Anyone with information should contact the incident room on: 0114 296 4471 or Crimestoppers.
