The Messenger’s volunteers are involved in all parts of putting the newspaper together, from the practical tasks of writing, interviewing and photography, to deciding what goes on each page. Volunteering is flexible, with opportunities during the day, evening or weekends – you can take on as much as you have time for.
How you can help
Covering events – write about events and take photos
Interviews – talk to people and write their story
Writing and research – find out what’s happening in the area and report on issues
Photography – photograph local people and activities
Editorial Team – discuss stories and make decisions about what to include in the Messenger
Editing – make stories fit on pages by taking out words or rewriting
Website – write stories and add content to the website
Design – help lay out pages and adverts or design graphics for stories
Proof reading – check the Messenger for mistakes before it goes to print
Management Committee – help the Messenger employ staff, secure funding and make decisions about the future
We can provide support for volunteers, and some training. Our volunteers gain skills and valuable experience by being involved, and they make the Messenger a great community newspaper.
