Firs Hill School festival was held this year on Tuesday 30th June in a beautifully decorated playground filled with activities and stalls. After being rained off more than once in the past few years this year the Firs Hill festival was held on what turned out to be an absolute scorcher.

Despite the heat and many parents participating in Ramadan, there was an excellent turn out and when asked how she was managing, Mehreen, an aunt of children at the school, said “Luckily we’ve got gazebos”.

While the adults watched from the shade the children enjoyed face painting, henna, hook-a-duck, a bouncy castle and other traditional favourites such as splat the rat and throwing wet sponges at teachers in the stocks.

I enjoyed a trip to the cake stall where green class had iced some fairy cakes. Inaya from red class told me “My favourite thing is hook-a-duck”. The whole school playground was beautifully decorated with bunting made by adult learners and parents.

Razia, a parent at the school who was running the popcorn stand summed up the afternoon as “Hot and sweaty but fantastic.”
