Byron Wood ESOL learners share recipes

Story:Caroline Norman

Women in the ESOL classes at Byron Wood Community Primary School have been learning computer skills with the help of ICT tutor Paul Adams.

Despite most of the learners having little or no experience of using a computer, they progressed from basic word processing to desk top publishing in just over one year.

The joint teaching approach, combining ESOL and ICT, enabled the women to improve their English language skills at the same time as learning to use a computer.

In the final term they worked on writing recipes and produced a short book of food from around the world. They exceeded their own expectations and hope to contribute to a bigger Byron Wood Recipe Book in the future.
