Sheffield City Council: Your local area

Ward Funding

Councillors have a small pot of money they can use to help fund community groups, projects and activities. You can apply for amounts of £250 up to £1000 and decisions will be made on a monthly basis. The activity or project needs to help address the ‘ward priorities’. These are listed below. To apply for ward funding please contact the North East Locality Officer on 0114 2037562 or Naomi.Hinch@sheffield.gov.uk

Ward Priorities

The three Burngreave Ward Councillors worked with local groups and listened to local people to identify their key priorities for 2015/16. These are due to be refreshed for 2016/17. Contact: 0114 203 7562 https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/northeast

Priority 1 – Community Support and Wellbeing

Local councillors will:

• Work with partners to mitigate the impact of the welfare reforms.

• Support activities that promote good physical and mental health.

Priority 2 – Environment and Public Realm

Local councillors will:

• Support activities and initiatives that help clean-up the area.

• Support and encourage volunteers and friends groups to improve local green spaces.

Priority 3 – Cohesion and Safety

Local councillors will:

• Celebrate the diversity of the area and if there are community tensions develop action plans where necessary.

• Work with the community and police to improve people’s perceptions of crime in the area, to inform local priorities.

• Encourage positive activities for Children and Young People in the area.

Priority 4 – Children, Young People and Families

Local councillors will:

• Encourage the take up of free early learning places.

• Support the plans for additional school places in the ward.

• Encourage activities that help raise the attainment of young people in the area.

• Work with partners to deliver adult learning to meet their training needs in the area.

What do you think about these priorities? Do you think there are other key issues that councillors should concentrate on in 2016/17? Please email Naomi.Hinch@sheffield.gov.uk with any comments you may have.

From your new councillor Mark Jones

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me. I will be unknown to most people in Burngreave, but hope to put that right over the coming months. I am the youngest of 9 children raised in the same council house as my father. I value family and community.

I am a life-long socialist and educationalist. I wholeheartedly believe in ‘to each what they need, from each what they can give.’ I am proud to be your councillor and will work hard to help everyone achieve.

Prizes to be won!

Local children are invited to design a sign to stop littering and fly tipping in Burngreave ward. The winning design will be professionally printed and displayed in the community. If you are aged up to 13, you can hand in your design at your school or directly to Pitsmoor Adventure Playground by 30th June 2016.
