In October 2015, pupils from Owler Brook and Whiteways Primary visited the St Cuthbert’s food bank to donate food from each of their harvest festivals.
The two primary schools had been working together since September to learn about the harvest season. They took part in joint assemblies to learn where food comes from and how it is grown, and all the pupils enjoyed the time working with the other school.
The Messenger visited Owler Brook and saw three large tables piled high with cereal, fruit and vegetables, tins and pumpkins, in just one school! Lots of children and families donated and the volunteers at the food bank were very pleased to receive their gifts. Traditionally, the harvest festival is a time to celebrate the production of plentiful food, and to donate what isn’t needed to the poor.
Jemma Rudd, deputy head of Owler Brook, extended her thanks to all the children and families that donated. The children are already looking forward to the next harvest.
