Job vacancy for youth workers

Youth Worker Required For New Project

Place of work: PACA Centre, 127 Page Hall Road, Sheffield, S4 8GU Hours: 20 per week Deadline: 9th May

Remuneration: £13,000 per annum

PACA is seeking a youth/sessional worker to carry out youth work in the Page Hall area, in a new upcoming dedicated space.

The project has scope to include a number of different activities, with the option to design your own additional activities as well as tailor our prescribed activities, focused on creating a safe space, in line with your interests and abilities. You will also need to undertake significant street-based outreach work to ensure we are reaching everyone.

A key task of the project will be improving street smarts for young people in the area, giving them the confidence, knowledge and ability to recognise and reject risky situations, particularly situations which could lead to exploitation or otherwise.

We will also equip the young people with the knowledge that no matter what the situation, abuse of any kind is never OK, and show them how and where to report anything they feel is wrong.

Are you the person we’re looking for?

You will be confident, outspoken and friendly, able to engage with young people in any location and circumstance.

You will have significant knowledge of safeguarding, above and beyond what is usually required, ideally with specialist knowledge of exploitation and/or grooming.

You will need to liaise very closely with outside agencies including the police and schools.

You will have a clear communication style, able to get across serious information in such a way as to retain the interest of the audience, spark discussions, and get young people coming back week after week.

You will be assertive and able to set clear boundaries for young people and stick to them.

You will most importantly be able to create activities which are fun, age appropriate and innovative. There will be significant opportunity to test out new ideas and methodologies.

Across various groups and sessions, you will be working with young people age 8-18.
