Story: Whiteways ESOL group & Margaret Gibson, ESOL Tutor, Lifelong Learning & Skills
On 25th June I took a group of Whiteways School Adult ESOL learners to Wentworth Gardens and Farm for a morning.
All learners were given a quiz to complete to encourage them to use spoken English to ask questions and to find the answers. Everybody did very well and had a lovely time as illustrated in their writing that they did on return to class the following week. Here are some examples of what they said about the visit:
“I love the peacocks which come from India. The female was brown but the peacock was a very nice colour and his tail was lovely and amazing.” Olfat Dawara, Entry 3
“First we saw lots of flowers, different colours. Next I went in another building and saw lots of fish in different colours and they were very nice.” Mohammed Najib, Entry 3
“I really felt excited to see many different kinds of beautiful flowers and beautiful animals.” Buddhi Rai, Entry 3
“When we got there it seemed like a wonderful place to visit. It's situated in a countryside village in South Yorkshire.” KhamberTamang, Entry 3
“It was one of my best days in the UK when my tutor asked us to visit one of the most attractive places in the north, it is Wentworth Garden Centre. The last and most enjoyable part of the visit in my opinion, was the visit to the historic garden where we wandered throughout the garden and I really enjoyed the charming Italian Gardens where I took a picture with the other learners.” Ahmed Ahmed, Level 2
“It was the first time I've seen meerkats. They are grey in colour and the size of a cat. The body is slender and legs are long and thin. They were sitting there looking around, very lovely.”Guizhen Yuan, Entry 3
“I saw a lot of flowers, many types and different colours. I like the roses, they had a really nice smell.” Arwa Hookias, Entry 3
A good time was had by all and some learners said that they would be taking their family there over the summer holidays.
