On September 13th, the annual community funday was in full swing. The event, hosted on the Wensley field, was packed with exciting activities, including rock climbing, parachute games and face painting.
Claire Shaw from Owler Brook School, one of the organisers of the event, spoke to the Messenger saying:
“A few years ago, we had an idea to set up an informal group of people from the local community. Our aim was to develop and run a variety of community activities to create a more harmonious, inclusive and active community. The group has grown and we have people representing the local schools, Eden project, the local police and local TARA groups.
“The group have helped to secure funding over the years that has provided a variety of life skill activities during school holidays. Activities like gardening in the local area, cycling lessons and swimming lessons and providing activities like art sessions and sports.
“Every September the group put on a community funday, just to say thank you for being a great community and letting us work with you. This year was yet another success, showing great community cohesion.”
