The Somali Professionals Association (SPA) is running a series of business, education and health-related workshops over the next few months.
The SPA was set up by professionals living and working in the Burngreave area. The organisation was formed just over a year ago and has since gained over 100 members, who are graduates and professionals in fields such as health and social care, education, medicine and engineering. The SPA is a non-profit organisation, designed to enable professionals to mobilise their talents and skills by working collectively to meet the needs of the community.
The SPA is running the workshops in partnership with the Sheffield based social enterprise, AALFY, and supported by the JG Graves Charitable Trust. They have developed a unique programme focusing on business start-up and capacity building in the local community, targeted at unemployed people of all ages. The first session on 29th of September will be a fun and interactive workshop on branding, digital marketing and advertising, focusing on developing a business identity. This will be delivered by AALFY with the support of a team from the Muslim Marketing Company. Other speakers include Angga Kara, a local Sheffield entrepreneur and motivational speaker. Angga has developed a successful fashion label (HANTU) in Burngreave and is now selling across the UK.
