Multifaith Forest garden working day 13th Dec

Story: Tim Shortland, community forestry team

You are invited to join us for a Multifaith Forest Gardening day at Parkwood Springs on:

Saturday 13th December 11am – 2pm.

Last month’s workday was productive and the garden is looking great. This month we will be continuing preparation for the winter, also there are the usual digging/weeding and maintenance tasks. There will be opportunity to continue discussing the future plan for the garden and also a chance for a guided walk for those who haven’t visited before.

A big thank you to one local resident who almost single handed has cleared the far edge of the garden of rosebay willowherb. An amazing achievement and much appreciated.

In April we established a selection of groundcover plants including: day lilies, lavender, sun berries, perennial walking onions and more. This is the first step in creating a more diverse ground layer.

In addition to the planting it has been a fantastic time for the forest garden. Just about all of the old planting membrane has been removed and replaced by wood chip. The main body of the garden has now been cleared and this has continued into the remaining areas towards the bottom of the site and around the old pond. The existing plants and trees have been nurtured and are thriving. The First Interfaith Tree is doing very well having settled into its new home and with the original plaque now installed really sets off the garden when seen from the path.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has worked on, and visited the forest garden over the past months. We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones as we move into another winter in the garden.

This month’s workday will be hosted by Community Forester Ed Thatcher mobile number: 07816 596228

Ed will be at the entrance of the car park from 10.45am.
