Crabtree Ponds Maintenance Day

Crabtree Pond Maintenance Day
Crabtree Pond Maintenance Day

The Nature Reserve at Crabtree Ponds is a delight to visit at any time of the year. You never know what you will see. In recent weeks a kingfisher has visited the ponds and, while wildflowers are out of season, there are some beautiful fungi and trees to discover around the ponds. And those birds just never stop singing.

On 1st December, as on the first Monday of every month, a group of supporters of the Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust spent a couple of hours clearing up the Crabtree Pond nature reserve. Quite a few bags of litter were removed. There was some evidence of fly tipping and minor vandalism too. The rain just about held off and, when the work was done, we had a welcome cup of tea and a mince pie. Not a bad morning's work. Of course, all are very welcome to come and help out at the next maintenance day on Monday, 5th January. Make a New Year's resolution to get involved in our local nature reserve.
