Multifaith Forest Gardening day

You are invited to join us for a Multifaith Forest Gardening day at Parkwood Springs on:

Saturday 9th August 11am – 2pm.

It was great to see the plants and trees in full leaf last month and to get down to some pruning. Some of the trees and hedges are growing very fast now and at this month’s workday we will be pruning and nurturing these, also there are plenty of weeds taking advantage of the sunshine and rain.

Some of the fruit (mainly currants) are just about ready to pick so feel welcome to bring a container to supplement your packed lunch.

In April we established a selection of ground-cover plants including: day lilies, lavender, sun berries, perennial walking onions and many more.

This is the first step in creating a more diverse ground layer. As the garden starts to offer it’s bounties it’s good to reflect on the amazing achievements over the last year. In addition to the planting it has been a fantastic time for the forest garden.

Just about all of the old planting membrane has been removed and replaced by wood chip. The main body of the garden has been weeded and the clearance has continued towards the remaining areas near the bottom of the site and around the pond. The existing plants and trees have been nurtured and are thriving.

The First Interfaith Tree is doing well settling into its new home and with the original plaque now installed it really sets off the garden when seen from the path.

There will be opportunity to continue discussing the future plan for the garden and also a chance for a guided walk around the garden for those who haven’t visited before.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has worked on, and visited the forest garden over the past months. We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones as we move into another season in the garden.

Please see the attached flyer for more details.

I will be at the entrance of the car park from 10.45am.
