WICAT (Women in Construction, Arts and Technology) has launched its new, extensive home maintenance training course programme.

The Sheffield-based voluntary organisation is running courses between now and Autumn in nine different topics from bricklaying, joinery and car maintenance through to plumbing, plastering and electrics.

“Our courses are all geared around home maintenance. The idea is that women can learn to do things for themselves. Having the skills to do those jobs that have been lying around for ages means you can save money and hopefully build the confidence to go on and do more,” said Cathy Cain, project manager at WICAT.

Sessions will run during the days on Saturdays and Sundays; and on Wednesday or Thursday evenings. For full details and to book a place, see http://www.wicat.org.uk

“They are all beginners’ courses, and are taught by professional tradeswomen who have got years of experience. They are aimed at women and taught in a women-friendly environment, but men are welcome to come too,” said Cathy Cain.

WICAT’s Home Maintenance courses are at the Women's Construction Centre, 21 Buckenham Street, Burngreave, Sheffield S4 7JQ. See the WICAT website (http://www.wicat.org.uk/) for full details or ring 0114 272 5360 (Mondays and Tuesdays only).
