The story of 7 Hills, 5 Rivers and 1 Island lies behind the growth of the Steel City – find out more at ‘Down by the Riverside’ – a festival celebrating Sheffield people and our industrial heritage.
Now known as the valley of beer, Kelham Island is a hub for real ale lovers and cool urban living but once the river and waterpower played an important role in the growth of steelmaking and formation of Kelham Island itself.
As part of the 100 Years of Stainless Steel centenary celebrations we've launched our first Sheffield, Made and Metal Market with Galvanize Festival of Contemporary Metal featuring stunning work and local produce for sale.
The event in partnership with the Upper Don Walk Trust, brings together local community, environmental and heritage groups and charities, all with a strong connection to the riverside and a will to share their love of the island with you.
