Pitsmoor Adventure Playground hosted their own Olympic Games in August.

Children, young people and parents competed in sack races, egg-and-spoon and relay races. The most challenging event was an obstacle course, where children had to navigate the whole playground and its equipment.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Vickie Priestley, was persuaded to take part in the egg-and-spoon. Children showed her around the playground and explained why it was important to keep it open and staffed. After presenting the medals, the Lord Mayor said,

“We have had a fantastic time. We can see how important this playground is to all of you and we wish you all the best for the future.”

Patrick Meleady, vice chair of the user group, said:

“The event was really uplifting for children and families and everyone left with a big grin.”

Honey, aged nine, said,

“I enjoyed the obstacle course and getting a medal from the Lord Mayor was the best bit of the day.”

Julia, aged seven, added,

“The sack race was really hard but I tried my best and got a gold medal – but I wanted the Lord Mayor’s chain!"
